Camera Stabilizer Inspiration

It’s time to get off the couch, get your camera gear together and find a video project. Take a drive in the country find some wildlife to shoot, maybe a county fair is in progress, a flea market may have many opportunities for subject matter. Every weekend you should find activities to find a story to tell. Maybe take a trip to the beech take shots of the waves, follow a ship or boat with your video camera stabilizer. One day a thunderstorm was approaching I unpacked the video camera and the video camera stabilizer with a raincoat and camera hood to keep the camera dry and took a walk through a forest, shooting water droplets coming off the leaves, taking video of sudden water streams and created a misty atmospheric video of a thunderstorm with all the sound effects. Because the trees prevented a lot of rain I did not get that wet Do you like the age of steam go to the many steam shows around the country every spring, summer and autumn and find the many storeys. You will find the entrants are more than willing to take time to give you all the information about their steam machinery that they love.

The video camera stabilizer in the hands of a professional can make magic You can be that professional with a little bit of practice.

Steadicam offers the Steadicam Merlin video camera stabilizer. A great compact camera stabilizer that folds neatly into a custom carrying case that is no larger than a camera bag. The Merlin is made of 7 main parts, making this camera stabilizer simple and elegant. When using the Merlin unfolding the camera stabilizer is easy, you just have to make sure the “hinge release” is locked so that it doesn’t fold up again. By securing your video cameras to the newly designed dovetail mounting plate the camera stabilizer can be adjusted by using the fine adjustment trim controls. Simply rotate these very smooth thumb rollers to adjust the fore-aft, and side-to-side balance. A nice touch that adds functionality is the engraved arrows next to each control. Trim “up” to point the camera up, arrow down to point at the ground.

Finding proper balance includes adding the correct amount of weight to the lower Spar. Each machined weight connects to end of the Spar, and can be piggybacked (five total) to create a long extension of stainless steel counterbalance. The Merlin has been brilliantly designed with rubber O-rings between each weight, keeping them from binding when threaded together. Nice. For lightweight video cameras we found that only a small amount of counterweight was needed. If you’ve ever thought about shooting with a handheld video camera stabilizer, Tiffen’s Steadicam Merlin is great way to get the moving shots you need.

On a recent trip with my video camera stabilizer I came across a antique farm and steam show. This opportunity provided me with all kinds of video about the history of steam. I was sure I could find a story to tell and to my surprise there was a Bell Steam tractor in full operation. Well, this brought memories of my childhood as the Bell Steam tractor was manufactured in my home town. While moving around the tractor with the camera stabilizer I was able to get all the closeup detail how the tractor works.Whats good about these shows you have subjects eager to give you information about their machinery. By time a spent a day at the show. I found many stories to tell and several possibilities of videos. Many farm steam tractors moving about made good action video using a camera stabilizer. Having a camera stabilizer made shooting this show so much easier. It would have been far more cumbersome with a video camera tripod. The freedom to move about the crowd catching all the action of the show was awesome and so rewarding using my video camera stabilizer.

Lighting conditions can effect the quality of your videos. When out on a project and the lighting conditions changed having a basic lighting kit in your arsenal can save the day. Three lights giving you a key light, fill light and back light with a small camera light will get you out of any dark situation. Another possibility is a huge halogen light illuminating your subject. Some times you will have to find your light. Tired of your usual video project, how about going out early in the morning or a dusk time and find a light source that you can shoot under. Try a light source such as a parking lot light, put your subject under the light giving you a dramatic effect.or stand your subject further away from the light and a little to the right to give you a more natural look. What other light source could you find, what about your car lights. Stand in front of your car lights and shoot having your subject in the path of the light. This would be great in a field with farm equipment could give you an interesting shot. With your video camera tripod or camera stabilizer just use your imagination to get the perfect lighting conditions that you want.

Camera Stabilizer Multi-Camera Shooting

When making a video production we usually do not have the ability to go back and do it again. For this reason, many videographers use multiple cameras, video camera tripods, and camera stabilizers. There are several ways of accomplishing this task some complex and expensive, and others relatively cheap. By having a second camera taking the cutaways, the main video camera can be left recording the main event. Also having two or more cameras recording you have footage from different angles. Sometimes the main video camera has a flaw in the video or sound missing the important action but the second camera has the action the first video camera missed. Most new video cameras have a time code that can help in synchronizing multiple cameras but this can be tricky. The use of a clapper board can be a great help synchronizing video cameras. When the clapper board makes a loud noise the editor can match the sound for each camera. A problem with video cameras using tape get out of sync easily and have to be re-synched. If you have the luxury of having your cameras connected to switcher like television studios have, the editor can switch from one camera to the other. A good product to consider for the small operator would be Newtek’s TriCaster a TV station in a a box.. Having a camera stabilizer to move around while video camera tripod recording the main action one person can acquire all the video you need.
